Frieze, London 2018
Frieze, PAD, Royal Academy, Saatchi Saatchi... Too much for just two days, but enough to leave the rain in London impressed. You like art, you like surprises, you like being inspired, well Frieze and London is the place to be. To start, you could walk from the underground station Bond Street and enter St. James St. to reach Regents Park for the exhibition. You pass by international design shops, cafés, and many little shops to explore. Not to forget Daunt Books, a living and vital legend bookshop.
The show opens at 12 noon and better be prepared with an online ticket. Food, drinks - no worries - there are a lot of stylish and good quality bars and restaurants on site.
Art is art is art. Or - you will find works that are outstanding in ideas, materials, constructions and wit. But - you also will find art pieces were you never will find the sense. You will question yourself “why is this here?” But I think you do not have to find an answer. Just enjoy that art works you like get even more importance.
By walking through Regents Park to get to Frieze Old Masters tent you pass the sculptures park, the espresso bar and the broad walk café. After the loud atmosphere at Frieze you will calm down at Frieze Masters and be impressed by the long time existing art.
To overload myself with creative minds and thinking, I visited the Royal Academy Renzo Piano exhibition. He developed and designed the Shard, London; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; Whitney Museum, New York; Kansai Airport, Osaka - to name just a few. The video were he tells about his approach to art, architecture and design is inspiring.
And it still was not enough, so I went to see Saatchi Gallery. Admission free you enter the impressive designed building and stroll around to catch some ideas about contemporary art. Well - like it or not - you can perfectly talk about it in one of the many restaurants in Kings Road or Sloane Square.
